Southern Scratch is located in the cute little historic town of Washington, GA.  We use only the finest locally grown, organic and gourmet ingredients we can find.  We are a Saturday morning bakery, a weekday gourmet meal delivery service and available to cater your next event! 

As a Registered Dietitian and a couple of bonafied food lovers, we don't offer anything we don't eat ourselves.  That means we never use anything with artificial trans fat (hydrogenated oils), high fructose corn syrup or MSG.  We use only grass fed butter, milk, buttermilk and cream cheese in all of our baked goods fresh from a local creamery.  In addition, we avoid most highly refined or processed flours, sugar and salts opting for less processed grains, sweeteners and things like French grey sea salt or pink Himalayan.  I would say that's because of the health aspect but really it's because it tastes so good! 

Since we also strongly believe in the "if you're going to have a treat, have a real treat" mentality, we don't mess with things whose refined texture matters in a couple things like poundcake or cinnamon rolls.   We offer these for special orders or sell them individually at the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.  (Is there anything better than a warm, freshly made cinnamon roll on the weekend?) We don't use any preservatives or freeze a bunch of stuff ahead of time so when you get your treat, you know that it's freshly made and totally "worth it." 

When I moved onto Reid's farm after we got married I started to learn a lot more about the great outdoors than I ever thought I would know!  In addition to Reid's respect for his land, the other farmers, ranchers and gardeners at the market have taught me so much about taking care of your animals and crops.  Although I am by no means an experienced nature girl, in our home and business we try to use sustainable methods that support us, the land and animals together in a respectful manner.  We use biodegradable kraft gift packaging, compostable cellophane wrapping, an eco-friendly paper company for our labels and business cards and even compostable takeout boxes! 

The bottom line is that I really just like to feed people!  I don't think there is anything better than the fellowship and the laughter that bonds people over sharing a really great meal together.  Whether it is coming to eat breakfast at the market on Saturdays, letting us help you with the cooking for a big get together or catering your entire event I hope we can be a part of that with you too!
